I am running ubuntu on a r500 thinkpad and a s300 toshiba restricted drivers functioning just fine , however if you are asking for the sake of wich one to purchase I would go with the nvidia chipset as I find that they are way better supported, and certainly out perform the ati's under linux.

I have the feeling if similiar in hardware it should do fine. Defianlty Nvidia is the way to go.

Sony VAIO VGN-FW21E

I'm on Fedora 10 and things are looking good so far.
Display, wireless, sound, multimedia keys out of the box.
Problems:
-no KDE 4 effects
-no function keys (brightness)

PS About Vaio: Previously I had a Mac Book Pro that was 3 times the price I paid for vaio (sold 2 yrs old mac and added very little money to buy new vaio). Well, I'll say just this: the price difference it's apparent in the build quality. I'm not saying that Vaio it's poor quality, just not as good as apple. Didn't see the premium models from Vaio (with similar prices of apple) so I can't say, maybe "up there" they are on par.

Hope this help
