[Solved] Linux on Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M7440

You can just turn SATA off from bios setting (last tab)

PS: AMILO M7440 had the easiest and quickest installation I have ever
seen. All hardware supported!

---
Hello ppl,

I just bought a brand new Amilo M7440.

I'm having problems instaling any distro (and windows) because of the sata disk. I've tried Mandrake 10.1 , Suse 9.2 and Ubuntu 5.04. The apprpriate module for the SATA disk doesn't cannot be loaded.

What are the steps to find out the what driver I should use?

Hi, i have just baught the same laptop, and have installed SuSE9.3 on it. The install runs fine, the problem i have now is that i can't get the screen to work in graphics mode. The grub screens work fine but as soon as it passes that i just get a bunch of vertical lines. This is driving me insane.....

Try this @ your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Code:
Section "Monitor"
        Identifier "Monitor0"
        VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
        ModelName "LCD Panel 1024x768"
        HorizSync 31.5 - 48.5
        VertRefresh 40.0 - 70.0
        Option "dpms"
EndSection

Section "Device"
        Identifier "Videocard0"
        Driver "vesa"
        VendorName "Videocard vendor"
        BoardName "VESA driver (generic)"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Screen0"
        Device "Videocard0"
        Monitor "Monitor0"
        DefaultDepth 16
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport 0 0
                Depth 16
                Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
        EndSubSection
EndSection

Is the wireless lan button working?
what distro is best for this laptop?
Cause xp is driving me crazy.

I have tried suse10,
on first boot the fan was silent but when i rebooted the fan kept going, any suggestions for that?

since none knows it here;

echo 0 > /proc/acpi/fan/FN2/state
echo 3 > /proc/acpi/fan/FN2/state

I've got ubuntu desktop 6.10 installed on my Fujitsu M7440,
it works very well (except for the fan working at full speed)
for the button you've got to use special module
the button will not work,
but using the module it simulates the button.

these 2 lines,
they really work, but what do they actually do?
isn't there any danger that my laptop will overheat?

bit late but here it is,
when the system boots the kernel does not turn the fan off,
why? what stupid computer starts with the fan all geared up....
but no worry when the cpu heats up the fan wil work.

However with older kernels I did experience some problems with acpi controlled cooling. There were times when it forgot to start the fan, so don't be so over-confident. Better safe than sorry.

(I too have FS Amilo M7440, and of course for a long time I haven't experienced such a problem)
