Linux on a tablet pc
 

Ok, right now for many reasons I am trying to buy an acer travelmate c112. It's a small tablet pc with a 1.1GHz processor and 512Meg ram. I'm a linux newb but when I get this I will want to put some form of linux on it. My questions are as follows:
1) Does any distro suport tablet functions?
2) and linux programs out there for notetaking, even handwriting=>text?
3) Which distro is most tablet friendly?
4) anything else that might be helpful

I searched the boards, but the things I found weren't very helpful or relevant to me. I really just need answers a newb like myself can understand lol. Thanks everyone.

Lycoris is the only distro I have heard of to produce a tablet linux edition. I believe you can only get it preinstalled, but check their website to be sure, maybe their standard desktop edition could be easily modified.

I would also search for reviews of their products, that will give you an idea of how well supported the tablet pc functions might be.

Another thing to be aware of with linux on laptops: power management and "special buttons" support is not always straight forward (and in several cases flat out broken). I would suggest looking for web sites that explain the linux install on that exact laptop to get an idea of what you might be able to get working easily and what may not work at all.

You might want to consider just getting the Lycoris-based tablet PC...

The problem with Linux Tablet support is that Tablet computers are so new, were developed "in secret", and haven't yet had all their functions transfered to Linux.

For example, the "screen flipping" that tablets do is tough to get working in Linux. Handwriting recognition is not there yet (although you might be able to get a system for tapping on a screen-based keyboard), and other things...
