linux mint 6 atheros ar5007
 

so i understand LM6 is out and that it is based on Ubuntu 8.10.
I have installed 8.10 on my laptop using wubi and the dreaded ar5007 wireless car works by installing the back end modules and i was wondering if its the same on LM6 or not.

It should be; the easiest way'd be to compile and install the latest MadWifi 0.10.x beta, you can get the source here:

the ar5007 works fine for me with 10.5.6 source from Debian repository using module-assistant (Same version as listed by MoonMind.)
Also using WPA2 security on my connection utilizing wicd and the wext WPA_Driver.
all this is working perfectly on Debian Lenny (testing).

I was using Linux Mint 5.0 Elyssa. It worked well, but I had a few problems, too. It seemed slightly unstable on my hybrid desktop. Lo and behold, however, I am now running Mint 6 with a fresh install, and found many, many improvements.

First of all, Mint 5.0 would not install all in one partition on my HD because apparently my HD was too large. So I had to make a partition /boot to boot from, and this created all kinds of other problems with post install issues which were fixable but a headache. Well, with Mint 6.0 this is no longer a problem for me. I can install the whole thing on one partition if I want, taking the default from the fantastic partition editor program. The instability issues I had are gone with Mint 6.0 too. It is rock solid on my home computer.

Mint 6.0 has an option for automatic logging in, so you don't HAVE to type your user name and password every time you boot. I'm using this option, since I'm the only one using this computer. I could always put a lock on my screensaver if that was an issue in my house, but it's not.

I *do* have a problem with Mint 6.0 that I didn't have before, however. That is if I watch youtube videos or StumbleUpon videos, they tend to start to play, then stop. I have to refresh the browser and try again... and again sometimes... before the whole thing will play. This was never an issue with Mint 5.0 for me.

Someone said to reinstall flash, and so I did, and no luck. The problem persists. That's my only gripe right now.

Okay so to clear things up in Ubuntu 8.10 all i had to do to get the ar5007 working was install the linux-backports-modules-intrepid-generic package. It was quick and painless and didnt involve madwifi or ndiswrapper. Since Linux Mint 6 (lm6) is based on Ubuntu 8.10 will it be the same?
Im not a techie kinda person so i don't want to fiddle with madwifi etc and since i don't have the Vista disc for my laptop anymore i don't wanna go for dual boot realize it doesn't work and then be stuck with an OS that doesn't connect to the internet unless via cable.

Without touching the driver it's going to be awful tricky to make it work.... I used the same Driver MoonMind is recommending.
