Question Linux Install on HP Mini 110

Here is a review of the HP Mini 110
http://www.laptopmag.com/review/lapt...ode=benchmarks

This doesn't recognize any bootable external device. Puppy Linux installs only to VFS partition, hence couldn't try NTFS. It simply says Boot Error. But Puppy boots from same flash drive on other PCs. Also tried an external hard drive. This is not recognized before boot. However, after boot via windows XP, only the Vfat partition is recognized. Wonder if I can ever install Linux on it at all.

I don't have an external CD/DVD drive. I have tried two flash drives and one external hard drive so far with puppy linux on all of them.

I took this to HP directly. They suggested all basic tests and then told me to consider exchanging the unit.

I just bought a 110-1020 for my wife and installed Ubuntu remix
using an external USB-DVD writer (a steal after a $60 discount with purchase) as far as I can tell everything works out of the box. the only problem I had was with wireless, but I plugged into
a wired LAN and downloaded proprietary drivers without any fuss

Thanks for this info. Glad it worked out for you. Try and see if this netbook boots from flashdrive. Personally, I don't like the idea of having to get an external DVD/CD drive inorder to boot this netbook if it fails.

I went to store later with flash drive having Puppy Linux. Only a Gateway Netbook would boot directly well from Puppy on Flashdrive.

Check the BIOS and enable USB legacy support if disabled and you'll be able to boot external USB CD, DVD or just flash memory. Check Ubuntu's images for usb installation.
