Linux GUI in Laptop problem
 

So thanks to some good help, I finally got linux (vector linux 4.3) on my sony vaio pcg-505fx. I ended up popping the hdd in another computer and installing it that way.

Anyways, now that the hdd is back in the laptop the GUI is all off. I reran vasm once it was back in the laptop to re-auto-configure everything. When in the GUI everything is way too big, and all the letters/fonts are for lack of a better word, messed up. This was originally with the vasm setting (Not really sure what this is, just knew to type it into the command line to get the configurer) setting at 800x600. When things are too big in windows I raise the resolution, so i tried that here in the vasm config and raised it to 1024x768. This didn't help. Also, I think its worth noting that the sizing and fonts in the text/black screen appear to be normal and not messed up.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Also anything else I need to do to reconfig since I originally installed the os on hdd in a desktop?

Hi mntamimi, I do not know vectorlinux at all bu from similar experiences I can probably give you some hints.
First, the X11 driver is somehow hardware dependent and thus the computer where you installed Linux onto your harddisk will impact the X11 settings.
The easiest way to overcome this is to start just into a runlevel which does not have a X11 running - at least runlevel 1 (simply add an 1 to your kernel´s boot-options)
This ensures to have at least a textmode available and from there you can use the respective configuration tools.
The asecond recommendation is to go into framebuffer mode directly from boot.
This can be achieved by adding the sequence vga=791 to your kernel´s boot-options.
The framebuffer mode is not the fastest but usable on most graphic-hardware today.
