http://www.handhelds.org/hypermail/h1900-port/current/
http://vserver.13thfloor.at/H1940/

i have an ipaq 1945 which is a model similar to your 1900. using the materials available via the second link i posted i was able to get linux running on my 1945.

some things to note as of this date.

linux runs on the 1945, however there is no the only available input method is via the i/r port. so what you have is basically a computer with no display or input and data i/o via the infrared port. not very exciting to an end user.

perhaps there is a way to start linux and the machine and then interact with a running program, after it has been started using the infrared port. i did not experiment past initial boot of the linux os.

note that after i got linux running on my ipaq, each time required a hard reset to return to windows ce. so be forewarned if you have any valuable data on your machine.

keep in touch !

I have recently obtained a unused iPaq H1930. Would like to stuff it with Linux!

I will compile the kernel myself from the most recent kernel patches here:
http://www.rtp-net.org/ipaq/patches/2.6.21/

Where could I download the pre-compiled (or find instructions how to make myself) the Qpie and/or GPE distributions?

From the most "active" source:
http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.c...1940StepByStep:
Quote:
This section explains the steps needed to get GPE and Opie running on your H1930 or H1940. For this we use precompiled images, which have been altered a little to make them work nice with our PDA. If you want to build images yourself, please see OpenEmbedded and http://www.openembedded.org.

The precompiled images can be downloaded from http://anymore.nl/ipaq/files/graphical_images/.
I would have no idea how to properly compile Qpie or GPE for my iPaq..

and the main website of resources (http://anymore.nl/ipaq /*) has been wiped out, too..

---

The next step I would try is to make an SDIO WiFi card work:
http://tuxmobil.org/sdio_linux.html

Has anyone succeeded? Digging into the link above, I found the drivers for old kernels (<=2.6.18), so first I should find a Linux-friendly SDIO WiFi manufacturer, and later probably forget upping the 2.6.21 from above...

Do you guys think it's just a huge waste of time, or are you with me?

thanks huge!

sledgeas I'm with ya!

I have used the http://anymore.nl/ipaq/* files in the past (around 2007 or 08)- they did work almost ideal. Unfortunately I have lost the SD card with my install & archives so I need these files again. If you have any info about the rootfs builds (and kernels) I would be grateful foe a hint.

I have tried the builds from this location but neither of them doesn't recognize touchscreen - and render the system useless :-(.
Did you managed to obtain a working image?

BTW I have a h1930 (not 1940, 1945, ...)

Thanks

BR
