I am inheriting a HP Pavilion N5270 notebook. It has crappy Windows ME on it right now, and I am looking to put Linux on there. I was wondering what the best distribution would be. I am looking for something fast and user friendly. I watch DVD's, do OpenOffice stuff, maybe wireless web, and use internet apps. I need something the family can easily use and that conserves battery life. My only Linux experience is with ArkLinux(based on Red Hat), which I have on an older pc. Any input yall have would be great.
I've been using Fedora Core 3 on my HP pavilion ZV5236EA and been very pleased with it. I don't have any experience on wifi, but all other stuff works just fine. Biggest problems i had with the touch pad, but a single line rc.local took care of it.
One thing is the 5in1 digital media reader on which i have no clue to even beginning to make it work. I read somewhere that linux might not support it at all.
Well anyway, I think Fedora qualifies for everything you mentioned, so try it if you haven't found a better one.
