Linux-Compatible Laptop Graphics Cards?

Hi. I'm looking for suggestions for reasonably good laptop graphics cards that are compatible with Linux (so that I could play some games using Wine, as I do with my desktop). Suggestions?

Is it still true that ATI cards are problematic?

intel and nvidia are linux friends.

ati drops support for old videocards.

A good one would be an nvidia one. Any will do, newer is better. I have a GeForce4 420 Go on one of my laptops, runs great, you can play lots of 3D games with it. They probably have much better ones now tho.

Sadly ATI cards are still problematic. What's more, the proprietary drivers do not perform near as well as the windows drivers do. I'm on a ati gpu with direct rendering at 277 frames/sec in glxgears :-/.
