Have you solved this yet? Is this laptop a very recent model?
"Unknown bus type". Does that refer to a lack of support in the kernel and it cannot continue to boot because the hardware initialization is critical at that point? Just guessing. You probably have a specific use for SLC - however using a distribution with a more recent kernel may help you determine whether support is available for the hardware and then take it from there. Maybe someone with more experience can find a way around your problem without resorting to the above, as it is time consuming. |
Is the SLC based on Red Had Enterprise Linux? Try booting with the latest Knoppix LiveCD or LiveDVD (http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html) and see if it works. If it does, then it's probably a kernel problem. The 2.6.9 kernel is a bit old for state-of-the-art Core Duo 2 processors and motherboards.

sorry for replying late..was in a vacation..
well, first it is a new laptop.. still didnt understand.. when i remark cernsmp, seems to be ok. #title Scientific Linux CERN (2.6.9-34.EL.cernsmp) # root (hd0,5) # kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.9-34.EL.cernsmp ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet # initrd /initrd-2.6.9-34.EL.cernsmp.img title Scientific Linux CERN-up (2.6.9-34.EL.cern) root (hd0,5) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.9-34.EL.cern ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet initrd /initrd-2.6.9-34.EL.cern.img what could be the problem? |
As basileus suggested, your laptop is too new for an older kernel like 2.6.9. As suggested, burn a live CD such as knoppix and see if it boots ok. That is very good advice. I would also follow the links provided.:)

but,
would it be ok to install Scientific Linux Cern 4.4 into my machine? or it installs Knoppix? i havent tried any liveCD yet..only used iso images and burned them.. |
