Linux 7.1 graphical display not working on DELL Studio laptop.

Hi,

I have a Dell studio laptop, and installed VMware on it. On this VMware (version 6.5) I installed Linux 7.1, but when I select the grapical mode the OS is installed but after installation I get the login prompt in text and the screen keeps on blinking and then stops......waits for few seconds.....and again starts blinking. When I try to start the X server using startx it gives me a fatal error message. Write now I do not have that message, but please let me know if you need the error message to help me fix this.

Thanks
Praveen

Red Hat Linux 7.1 was released in 2001 and all support ended a long time ago.

The current version is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 available at http://redhat.com

CentOS is a free Red Hat "clone": http://centos.org

Right....I have RHEL 5.5 as well but my intention of working on Red Hat Linux 7.1 was because I got a document to install oracle 9.1 on Red Hat 7.1, and I'm not sure if Oracle 9.1 can be installed on RHEL 5.5.

search the google archives
red hat nolonger has any even paid support for RH7.1
so even if you do have tech support from red hat - there is NO support for RH7.1

PS. in the Linux world rh7 is comparable to windows 95/98
and will never install on new hardware
