latitude cpi Suse 9.1 X problem
I've just installed Suse 9.1 Pro on my latitude cpi without incident. The weirdness is that when X started the screen slowly turns white. I have installed the latest fedora and X works fine. Also Knoppix off a DVD works fine also. The video is an ATI. Any ideas?
thanks |
Never seen or heard of this problem...
What do you mean that it "turns white"??? |
the screen starts out black and then very very slowly starts to fade to white. I've never seen this problem either. I used to have XP on that laptop and the video card is fine. Fedora had no problems.

I'm equally confused. Does this "turning white" behavior happen all the time, or just with Suse? Also, does this occur over a small amount of time (less than a minute or so) or over a period of hours?
Not to ask a really dumb question, are you sure this isn't the laptop going into a power saving mode after X amount of inactivity, or maybe the screensaver coming on? I will assume the answer is No, but I'm not sure what else could reasonably produce this effect. -- J.W. |
my Thinkpad did that also, screen looks like its an old "mood ring" then all white.
I had to reinstall and now I dont touch the "adjust XY param. screen box" when it comes up, just X it off. if I click yes to X Y then it will do it again :( its a real PITA |
no question at this point is unwelcome .... it is not in standby it turns slowly white over the course of a minute and only for suse ..... fedora fc 2 is fine as is knoppix .... the graphical install for Suse is no problem either

not adjust the X Y params did the trick thanks. Any idea how expand the screen size? there is a 1.5 inch unused black border around the display.

This exact thing happened to me, I just installed on an older HP Omnibook 900B with ATI graphics card. I do not recall seeing the XY option in the installer... where is this? Is there a manual fix I can make from consold without having to clean install?
Thanks! |
