Laptp hangs ...

I have an IBM Thinkpad T60 on which I run LinuxMINT as the sole operating system. All has been sweet until this morning when Boot didn't complete and the machine froze.

I have tried Ctr/Alt/Delete to close down but, of course, it never completed starting, that doesn't work.

Apart from removing the battery, is there any other way of closing the machine down, so that I can start afresh.

TRY holding the power button down for 10 seconds or until it shuts off

it hanged once and then i rebooted.......lik^^^^^ said.... now am not able to login to f8.......so plz provide solutions.....
