Laptop Keyboard and Touchpad not working after GRUB on Toshiba Satellite L775D-7132 on Debian
I have a Toshiba Satellite L775D-7132 (pretty old laptop, I know, but I'm a student, so I can't really afford to buy a new one)
the problem I have is that sometimes after GRUB loads the system and I get to the login screen, the keyboard and touchpad aren't working I have a USB mouse and keyboard, but when I take my laptop with me, I can't use them, so I'd like to be able to get a permanent fix for this this happens specifically AFTER GRUB, i.e. on the login screen, and thereafter (after getting into my session, I'm currently using i3, but the same thing happens on LXDE, Gnome, Cinnamon, and Xfce) I'm currently using Debian Testing/Stretch, but this exact same thing happened on all releases of Ubuntu since 12.10, and Linux Mint, which are the distros I've used I tried changing my GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT to be GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT ="quiet splash i8402.reset i8402.nomux atkbd.reset" (added the text in red) but it didn't really make a permanent fix, it still happens then, I tried checking for kernel modules loaded when this was happening, and when it wasn't and I found a difference running lsmod | sort > ~/Desktop/lsmod.dump as root, on both situations, and then diffing the files I found out that hid hid_generic usbhid are not running when this happens however, I don't really know if those are 'responsible' for this any help will be appreciated |
there's really nothing special about your laptop & internal keyboard & touchpad, i don't see why it shouldn't work.
is it possible that you had your external mouse & keyboard attached when you did the install? would it be possible to re-install with no temporary peripherals attached? |

mouse connected when I installed Debian (the current OS I have on it) I'll try re-installing without any external peripherals connected but how would having a USB keyboard and/or mouse connected during the installation cause the Laptop's own Keyboard and Touchpad to not always work afterwards? is that a known bug? |
