laptop battery drains even when unit is turned off

Just installed MDK 10 on a Compaq Peserio 2105 US. Things are going okay for now.
However, when I boot down, the process goes all the way to 'Power down' and does nothing. In my main box, it goes ahead and turns the box off.

I went ahead and turned off the laptop with the off and on switch. The next time I tried to use it the battery was completely dead. This happen once more. Now, after I turn it off I connect the charger to asap.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Thanks,
dlw

PS: The sound works with MDK 10 where it didn't with MDK9.1.

Stupid question: Your sure that you didn't put the computer to sleep/suspend mode instead of off?
