Knoppix & SUSE on Laptop

Hi all

I just bought a new shiney laptop, HP Pavillion dv1000 (no info on linux laptop web site). i tried Knoppix to see if everything worked ok and all did, sound, nics, usb, reading ntfs partitions etc. so i installed FC4 (i use RH9 on a desktop) on the laptop (dual boot). unfortunately the usb does not work with any device, no ntfs recognition, no sound (although this is the norm for RH & derivatives). so i tried SUSE, for no other reason than it was on a cover disc (i've only ever used RH9 before, still a newbie ish) Suse recognises the ntfs but still no usb access or sound although the system beep works (annoying little sh@t). i have 2 choices, i can spend forever and a day searching websites n forums for tweaks n hacks or possibly install knoppix. so the question is, as knoppix is a debian based distro, would i be better suited to installing knoppix or debian? i really cant be bothered spending hours/days/weeks/the rest of my life setting up a system when i know the technology is already out there by default. (how come mark knopper can get it right but two of the big distro guys can't??????). all and any help would be appreciated.
regards
Comatozed
ps i do ilke the look n feel of SUSE 10, very nice, pity it doesnt work on the laptop.

Try SuSE9.3 and/or install Knoppix. Debian may be a bit much straight off unless you REALLY love the command line and man.
