knetworkmanager sometimes doesn't find network

i installed suse 10.3 last week on my gateway t6815 and everything works great out of the box most of the time. Sometimes (about 40% of the time) when you first boot, knetworkmanager in the tray shows the X'ed icon (because it doesn't find any network or device) and the kpowersave icon is grayed out. When you reboot, the kpowersave icon shows up normally and if you enable wireless in knetworkmanager, wireless works. If you shutdown and restart a few hours later, everything seems to work fine. Since I didn't change any settings, I don't understand why it isn't consistent.

I'm using the ipw3945 wireless driver. I had pclinuxos running on the same laptop and I never had this problem. Did anyone else have this problem? Is this a problem in suse?

thanks.

I observed the same problem for a while... using knetworkmanager and iwl4965 kernel module in opensuse 10.3. I was then using the standard linux if-up and down stuff, worked pretty well also with wlan. afte a while I tried again with networkmanager and since then it works. don't know what was the problem...
