Keyboard language setting on Averatec 3200 running SUSE 9.1

I'm having a weird problem with a SUSE 9.1 installation on an Averatec 3200 laptop. Every time I log into KDE, the keyboard language setting reverts to German, requiring me to change in back to English manually. It's simple enough, but it's very annoying to have to do it every time. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

check out your X configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf or /etc/X11/XF86Config or something in the likes of those, depending on what you have installed).

Code:
Option "XkbLayout" "be"
that's what I have, for belgian layout. Change it accordingly.

edit: you may want to save your original configuration file. Another option (also after making a backup of the original) is to run xorgconfig or xf86config to make a brand new configuration file.

OFF TOPIC

Please move this thread if needed but I need to talk to dinosaur knight. I have 3200 Averatec and tried to get Suse 9.1 to work to no avail numerous times. Being that you are asking about setting up the keyboard, I assume that the installation for you went through fine. If you have any tips, please let me know because I would really like to get Suse working on my laptop.

So the problem I'm having with the installation probably has to do with the video driver. The install goes by fine but at reboot, it starts loading the runlevels and it goes all the way to runlevel 5. My screen goes black after reboot and someone told me that going to runlevel 5 could be the problem so I changed it to stop at runlevel 3. Once it stops at runlevel 3, I get a login prompt so I log in. After that I try to start xserver but once I type "startx" it'll go into the black screen.

Thanks for any help that anyone can provide. I apologize in advance for this post is probably in the wrong place but I figured everyone here may have already experienced similar problems to what I'm having. BTW, on Suse 9.0 I have the same keyboard problem that you are having.

Hello,

Sorry, I don't think I can be of much help. I didn't have any problems like that when installing SUSE 9.1 on my laptop. The only hurdle I ran into during installation had to do with KDE not installing properly due to a problem with the automatic update.

What edition/medium of SUSE are you installing from? I used the DVD from the Professional Edition retail box, and never encountered any video-related problems. You might want to try that if you're doing something different. Beyond that, there's not much I can suggest.
