KDE is very Slow

Hello!

OKay, so I got my Dell Inspiron 6000 finally working. I installed the ati radeon driver, loaded the ipw2200 wireless driver, and fine tuned a lot of the stuff.

But, alas, kde for some reason freezes for a bit a lot. Loading is slowed and games like ppracer are snail's pace.

What can the problem be? Acpi setup, the graphic driver?

I know this isn't a desktop, but I've got 1 gig of memory, so it shouldn't be that slow.

UPDATE: OK, it's the the dma problem - can't activate dma. I see there is a lot of talk about that, but nothing yet has solved my problem.

UPDATE 2: OK, got dma working, but when I lspci get a lot of unknown devices:

00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp.: Unknown device 2590 (rev 03)

How can I improve this?

Any help will be great!

Hello,

if you cannot activate DMA with hdparm utility it's probably because a feaure/module is missing... So you have to find what kind of IDE controller your motherboard uses and insert the appropriate driver and then you'll be able to enable DMA
