Kali live usb install and boot problems with uefi

Hey guys I am trying to install kali on a usb and use it as a live distro. I followed the kali efi install guide on kali forums but when I boot from the usb I am brought to a screen that is titled grub GNU version 2.00 and am left with a terminal windows displaying grub>. What steps am I supposed to take from here, or do I need to go about booting differently? I am on an hp m6-k015dx if that helps.

Any takers? I have tried using legacy support and the computer has issues letting me into the bios to change it back so I don't want to brick it.

You have to disable the "Secure Boot" option in your bios menu.

I just disabled secure boot and I am left with the grub windows. Do I need to type a command in to boot from there, or what do I need to do to get inside of Kali?

I apologize, I misread your previous entry, if you use the Linux LIVE USB Creator http://www.linuxliveusb.com/ you can use that to install a live version of Kali Linux onto your thumb drive. Just make sure you choose the Kali Live Distro ISO as your live image.

HOW did you make the live usb ?
also you are aware that kali is designed FOR networkand SECURITY EXPERTS to be used BY EXPERTS for EXPERTS to use .

please pay attention the the WARNING that the kali devs posted
In the section :
"Should I Use Kali Linux?"

http://docs.kali.org/introduction/sh...use-kali-linux
and to quote

As the distribution developers, one would likely expect us to recommend that everyone use Kali Linux. The fact of the matter is however, that Kali is a Linux distribution specifically geared towards professional penetration testing and security auditing and as such, it is NOT a recommended distribution for those unfamiliar with Linux.

In addition, misuse of security tools within your network, particularly without permission, may cause irreparable damage and result in significant consequences.

the best way to put Kali on a usb is on an encrypted usb
http://docs.kali.org/installation/ka...d-disk-install
or a live image on a usb using "dd" with persistence
standard install to a usb
http://docs.kali.org/category/installation
-- usb --
http://docs.kali.org/installation/ka...ve-usb-install

the install is very easy and rather basic .

I have used backtrack before. My problem is not with installing. it is with installing and allowing it to play friendly with UEFI FIRMWARE. I can navigate and use linux quite well, but I am not familiar with Kali or with installing it to be able to work with UEFI.

this is not what you have is it ?
Code:

GRUB >
I take it you do not see the kali boot options window

if you see "GRUB > " then it is installed wrong on the usb

so how did you install it to the usb
is it a "live" boot ? ( from dd'ing the iso to the usb )
or an install to the usb

I believe I installed it using rufus and then added the efi folder. I am installing it with LiLi right now.

Here is what it shows when I boot. I created the usb using LiLi and added the EFI folder with grubx64.efi and BOOTX64.efi and the grub.cfg file. I am still getting this prompt when trying to boot and I cannot figure out how to get it to boot correctly.

Surgikill 09-01-2013 10:06 PM

Can anybody help with this I can still not get it to boot correctly and it is very frustrating. I have disabled secure boot and have tried multiple times to fix this.

posting your email address seems kinda silly for a pentester. Kali is not supposed to be installed in a persistent environment it sorta defeats the whole point of the distro
