Just finished Vector 6.0 install, know my password, how do I find my UID?
I hope I chose the correct forum to post this...
Alright. I just installed Vector 6.0 and cannot sign in. I was asked to create a password during configuration, however, I do not know what my User ID is, or when it was assigned for that matter. I have not been able to sign in as a result. (pretty anti-climactic) Is there a default UID because I don't remember creating one.
Any suggestions would be appreciated... Thank You.
Were u asked for a username while installing.
If not then it must be the root account.
When it asks for the username put root as the username.
and input the password.
See if it logs in.
if it logs in then check ur /etc/passwd file.
See if u have ur UID there.
If not then create one by using adduser in the terminal.

Not familiar with Vector linux, but some distros (like openSUSE), have a check box when you create a user, to use that password as the administrator (root) password. Try to use the user ID "root", with the password you know.
Once in, use *EXTREME* caution. Root should be used sparingly. Open a terminal, and type in "cat /etc/passwd". Look towards the bottom of the file, and look for a user ID that looks familiar.
