is there a way to connect to an encyrypted network???
hi
i am running slackware linux 10.1 on a dell insprion 1100(dual booting windows xp) is there a way to connect to a network that is encrypted
ignoring the encyption?????
i know you can in windows but i need to in linux....
thx in advance
ok heres the deal
kitrina has forced me and my family to come to texas to my grandmas house seeking refuge from the damage
they hae 56k internet......
a negibor has dsl AND a 802.11b wireless network and i happen to have brought along my laptop in case our house got screwed
my laptop has a wireless card in witch i have configed to work in linux
we need to get on the internet to check pictures and stuff but the stupid old guy forgot his WEP key
i have tools such as aircrack and airsnort on my laptop b/c wardriving is a goal i plan to reach... NOT FOR BAD!!!
so.......i remember with my home network once i connected with
#iwconfig ath0 key s:****
#dhcpcd ath0
then ran airsnort it captured packets fine and at a good rate
but i need to know how to connect without a key just to get sum packets...
btw i have his permission
If he forgot the key, why doesn't he retrieve it from the access point/router? Or, just set it differently?
ASSUMING you have his permission, and I only post this because this information can be found in hundreds of places online, you'll need to gain the WEP key through weaknesses in the RC4 encryption scheme. Also, there will need to be other active clients on the network.
ok we just called him an hes a dumbass....lol
he has no clue on how to get the wep and access the router(although I know u have to go into ure browser and type 192.168.0.1 in the adress bar right???)
WELL
hes not home and hes old so ya know all the doors r locked and i cant get in...(sux)
all i need to know is a command in bash that could connect me so i can capture, inject and that stuff......ya..........
you'll need a wireless card capable of scanning and monitoring networks. And you'll need a tool like airsnort. Again, only use this if you have the network owner's permission. Using this on an encrypted network without the owner's permission is a FELONY in the United States (Computer Trespass/Unauthorized Access of a Private Network). That means jail time of > 1 year. (This is not directed at you, but also at anyone else who reads this.)
