is there a software to emulate Dell's Fn keys?

My Inspiron 510m sends function keypresses as normal scancodes. I used GNOME's keyboard shortcut feature to map them to functions (i.e. volume up/down etc...).

If you recompile the kernel, there are specific options for the Dell laptop (BIOS, keybord, etc) Also in xorgconfig, there is one option in the keyboard setup portion that let's you select a Dell laptop keyboard
