Intel Pro Wireless 2915 abg Problem with DELL Insipron 6000

Hi guys,
i am a totally a newbie to Linux, so sorry abt any trivialities ;-)

I installed Mandriva LE2005 on my DELL Inspiron 6000 laptop with a dual boot with Win XP. I have been having problems configuring my wireless card. My wireless card is Intel Pro wireless 2915 abg . I downloaded and installed ipw2200 and the hotkey fw files. it is recognizing the device and when i run iwconfig i get the wireless network information. But when i use "Connect wifi" from the monitor network option from the mandrake control center is get this message on the console

Code:

kid exited -1 at /usr/lib/libDrakX/run_program.pm line 153
and when i press connect button in the wireless network controls i get this message

Code:

output in file /etc/waproamd/scripts/ failed : Is a directory
It would be great, if some one can help me out on this.

Thanks a lot !!

Detecting Packets but still probem persists

Dear ppl,
I have managed to see my data packets being sent and received from my wireless card in the mcc. I don't know if it is meant to be but i seem to have two hotplug/firmware folders

1. /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware

&

2. /etc/hotplug/firmware

so i copied the firmware files to both the directories and now it seemed to yield but then again the prev mentioned problems still persists ...

Please help me out..........

Plz help me out !

hey guys,
plzzzzzzzzz.... help me out .... OK i will detail what i did for configuration. Probably i did something wrong here.

1. I downloaded the latest ipw2200 from http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/ - ipw2200-1.0.4.tgz

2. I downloaded the latest firmware corresponding to the driver - ipw2200-fw-2.3.tgz

3. Then i unpacked and installed the tar files

Code:

% tar -xvf ipw2200-1.0.4.tgz
% cd ipw2200-1.0.4
% make install

% cd ..
% tar -xvf ipw2200-fw-2.3.tgz
% cp *.fw /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware

% modprobe -r ipw2200
% modprobe ipw2200

"modprobe -r" was just to remove any previous version i might have tried !

I hope the above works for some body else

Did i do something wrong here .... please help me out !

Thanks

Hey sshiv,
I used the rpm packages, you can find the relevant links at this location:
http://mandrivausers.org/index.php?s...400&hl=ipw2200
You should be advised that I'm still not online, I'm using Mdk 10.1 Community and I seem to be having a problem addressing the hardware. At first the Broadcom NIC was eth0 and the Firewire was eth1, I tried to make the 2200 eth2 but that didn't work. So I stuck with default 'alias eth1 ipw2200', when I tried to scan it said 'Interface doesn't support scanning'. I figure it was trying to access the Firewire. In the process of reconfiguring, the scripts made the Firewire eth0, now I don't seem to have an eth1. I think if I can work out the hardware address issue, I'll be there. When you are new, it's best to stick with the rpm's whenever possible. Best of luck and I'll check back if I learn anything.
BTW, thanks for the 'modprobe -r' suggestion, maybe that will help me.

IPW2200 Problem with Dell Inspiron

Just to update,
At the time I wrote the last post in this thread, I was using Mdk 10.1. While I did get the wireless working, I found out that Firefox in Mdk 10.1 was the culprit.
When I tried Mozilla, everything worked fine.
I've since upgraded to Mdv 2006 and it's even easier to set up. Firefox works, as does almost everything else.
The most critical issue that I ran into was choosing the right firmware for my drivers, this is crucial.
Best of luck to one and all!! :Pengy:  ;)
