I have a Dell Inspiron 6400. It is a Core Duo with 3945abg wifi card. Now I have problem with this card. I have read all about ieee80211, ipw3945 (0.7,1.0.0-intel,1.0.2) and ipw3945-ucode.
But always the same error message:
$sudo modprobe ipw3945
2006-05-02 02:45:11: ERROR: Could not find Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
FATAL: Error running install command for ipw3945
(Note that I am not sure if that's where Kubuntu 5.04 puts its logs, but I'm assuming so.)
Check the logs to see if there's any acknowledgement that Kubuntu finds the wireless card.
It may be a matter of having the firmware files in the right place; if the firmware can't be found - this will be located in the log also.
Also, make sure if there's a kill switch (a button or key combination to enable/disable wireless) that you try it before or after activating it once to see if your results change.
Do you want to know why my Kubuntu can not see the Intel 3945 ??? Because there is not an Intel, but a Broadcom!!! ARGH!!!!!!! 3 Days lost for an Dell's error!!!!
