intel2200 wireless mandrake10

Ok, i was hoping i wouldnt have to do this but i am running in circles. Im trying to utilize my intel2200 wireless card in a compaq M2000 running mandrake 10. First i tried the Mandrake Control Center. Internet:New Connection >> It asks which network/main drivers to use, then provides a LONG list of drivers. Since i had no idea where to begin i simply tried a few, and they failed. I did some research on ipw2200 and also downloaded the firmware. When i try to make ipw i get the following error message:

/lib/modules/2.6.3-7mdk/build: No such files or directory. Stop.
[modules] Error 2

None of the intructionals i have found make much sense to me. I am (as you can guess) a relative noob w/linux. I am trying to put mdk on a somewhat level footing w/windows on my laptop so that i can become more familiar w/linux and possibly use it more heavily. I know someone can find it in their heart to help a noob w/this (probably) simple problem i am having. Also, if you dont want to go through it step-by-step w/me but know of something online that is easy to follow, please point me to it. Thanks.

im in the same boat as you

i have a built in intel2200bg in my dell laptop. I'm currently trying some of the following. As in literally i'm trying them on my laptop right this second(i'll tell you how it goes).

do a google for 2200bg linux and you will find an intel2200bg.sf.net or something simliar to that. So I tried downloading and installing that but I got an error saying I needed ieee80211 firmware or something. And it said to download from http://ieee80211.sf.net . So I had to boot back up into windows and download it, so now I am trying that.

ok well that got me no where

i did all this bullshit and nothing worked. Simple things like this should not be so complciated if they expect anyone to be able to figure this stuff out. I know more than about 90% of computer users and I can't even come close to getting the wireless to work on my laptop. It's saying all this stuff you have to do in addition to this current stuff just to use WPA or WEP which makes no sense. If you figure it out post a howto

ok after messing around a little bit longer, it looks like the reason i cant get ieee80211 to install is because I dont have my kernels source files in the folder lib/modules/2.6.11-6mdk-i686-up-4GB/

it says im missing

/build folder in the above directory(lib/modules...etc)

so how do i get this build folder

check ndiswrapper

i've still not gotten it to work but i'm much closer.

http://ndiswrapper.sf.net

there is a list page listing all the drivers it works with

it has the download needed for the intel 2200bg

To Progbass8

I am a fan of Mandrivia myself but switched to Ubuntu and I am impressed. Everything works. Just some config to do for DVD playback and Internet stuff like Java run time to run limewire, plugin etc. My laptop has the same wireless specs like yours. Everything went great for Mandrivia installation only wireless didn't work.
Mandrake wireless config window is buggy, if you choose the driver iwp2200 from the list, it does nothing because after you click Next it goes back to the previous window. That was what happened in my system. If you choose ndiswrapper, using bcmwl5.inf from window driver, or manual installation, it won't work neither because of firmware, ndiswrapper in Mandrivia is old, and kernel stuff. I tried to fix it for days but in vain.
I also have tried SuSE9.3, Debian Sarge too none of them worked for wireless.
