Intel Atom performance

Hi,

I'd like to acquire a netbook, I like Lenovo ones, but i wonder what is the actual performance of Intel Atom. I'd be glad of reading your real experiences. Of course, I don't seek to make rendering o something complex with multimedia, I'd use a netbook to:

*browse internet
*use OpenOffice.org
*often compiling apps
*play videos

I look forward your comments!

Atom systems are certainly more than powerful enough to do any of that.

I am using lenovo s10 at the moment as a back up for my aging ibook g4. I installed triple boot, win XP, Ubuntu 9.04 and Linux-Mint Felicia. Everything looks great, except you might need extra tweak for the internal microphone to works, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...10#post6589810

Also I suggest you to make clone of the hardisk before you want to play around with it.

play videos => beware of flash

Is see that playing videos is in your list. I would like to remark that if the Atom is powerful enough to play downloaded videos, it often has trouble playing flash videos such as the high quality ones you now find on youtube in full screen.

There is a longer explanation (and a solution) on this page of my blog: There is a problem playing flash video on a netbook
