Installing Ubuntu/SuSe over Red Hat enterprise Linux 5

Hi,

I want to replace my RHEL 5 with either Ubuntu or SuSe. I tried older versions of SuSe but they give some error while installing and the installation stops. I want to keep my WINDOWS partition as it is. Please suggest versions of Ubuntu/SuSe that may over-write the existing RHEL 5.

Thanks in advance
Amit

If you format your existing Linux partition(s), anything you choose will overwrite it.

How do I format that partition. Should I do that from WINDOWS? I have WINDOWS Vista running but I desperately need Linux. A detailed help on formatting will be appreciated.

Thanks

How did you install Linux the first time??? When you run through the installer, you will (at some point), hit a section that will ask you how you want to carve up the disk. Your Windows partition will be on that list, along with your Linux partitions. You'll have an option to leave some partitions alone, or to format them. This varies from distribution to distribution.
