Pavilion ze5470us Notebook (2.66GHz Pentium 4, 512MB, 80GB, DVD+RW, Wireless b/g). Dual boot: WinXP home, and Red Hat 9
Hello all (Total newb to Linux) First problem was getting the RH9 to install. it freezed at "Loading ochi 1394...". I then found out you can type in boot:"linux nofirewire". and installation was on it way. made boot disk and the computer reboots. Grub screen: Selected RH9-O.S.<ENTER> now is long list of stuff checking if everything is running [ OK ] unit it reaches this line "Initializing firewire controller (ohci1394): _" and it FReezes. (Restarts Computer) Grub screen: Selected RH9-O.S. press "a" to modify kernel arguments before booting. (new line) "grub append> ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi(i type in)" "grub append> ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi nofirewire" <enter> the check list of [ok] proceeds. and freeze at line. "Checking for new hardware" (freezed) what did i do wrong, any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. or should i simply purchase a copy of SuSe 10.0. Would that make my life easier?  |
my first question is WHY ARE YOU USING RH9???? IT'S OLD!!!
Download the replacement, Fedora Core 5 from fedoraforum.org It is better and should work. More features, more stable, newer. Released about a month ago. There is a bug with bootloader install, but there is info on how to fix it all over the internet. |
