Question Installing Linux on a Laptop without a CD drive

Hi all

I have a IBM Thinkpad X20, which because of weight issues doesn't have a cd-rom drive built in it. It has USB slots and a Ethernet Card. It also doesn't have a floppy disk drive.

I can't install linux because I don't ave a bootable CD drive (duh), and/or floppy drive. I have acces to CD thru the network. I've heard there are some progs, that let you install linux using DOS, but I haven't found any of these.

Do you have any idea how to install linux in this case??

Thx for all the help!

One option is to use loadlin to startup. It requires some boot images from the distribution you are using, and...ah ok im too lazy so here:
http://www.slackware.org/faq/do_faq....q=installation
Look for installation without a floppy and the howto install from an iso file without a cd.

I use that option on my portege 3440CT, but its a lot of trouble and took me a whole day =(

Another much more nice solution would be the one writen here:
http://lenz.homelinux.org/portege3440CT/

The page is down right now, but google may have it cached (Try "portege 3440CT linux" as a search). It just requires your laptop to be able to boot from the network device and ofcourse a linux server.
