installing Debian on note book PC

Can I install "Debian Etch 4 R0 ( i386/32bit)" on my Compaq Presario Note book PC with following Configuration.

AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology MK-36 and 512KB L2 cache (2.0 GHz)
14.1" WXGA High-Definition BrightView Widescreen Display(1280 x 800)
Hitachi HTS541680J9SA00 Hard disk
nVidia GeForce Go 6150 with shared graphics memory
Super Multi 8X DVD R/RW with Double Layer Support
512 MB Ram

When I tried to install Debian Sarge 3.1, my hard disk was not detected for partition. An Error message, "no partition media found" displayed. When I tried Ubuntu 5.10, Installation was successful but graphic display was the problem.

I am familiar with debian, so please inform me which version of debian is suitable for my laptop

Yeah, Etch should work. Sarge's installer doesn't like SATA hard drives, it causes that exact error message on pretty much all of 'em.

Just be prepared, I've heard of a lot of wireless problems with Etch.
