Install SuSE 10.1 on Tosh Satellite TE2000 freezes
Greetings,
I am trying to install SuSE 10.1 on a Toshiba Satellite TE2000. It always freezes at the "Initializing Catalogs" stages - i.e. the animated clock stops and the mouse cursor freezes. I am working my way through the safer installation options (disabled APCI, now trying disabled Local APIC). While I wait for that (it takes hours over the net), any advice?? There are no warning or error messages - it just stops. Should I give up on SuSE 10.1 and just try another distro? Should I give up on the laptop? (I have successfully installed several SuSE's over the years, including SuSE 10.1 on a server.) Thanks in advance. Les |
Does it freeze at "Initializing Catalogs" during a GUI install? Have you tried a text install?
Be sure to run a check on the CD's also. |
Yes it did the same on a text install. I have given up on SuSE and tried Ubuntu 6.06. After a few technical problems getting something that the old optical drive could read it is going well.
Makes a nice change from SuSE anyway. Thanks for your interest. |
You might have better luck with Suse 10.0. I'm finding that 10.1 is too buggy and takes to much effort to get things working. 10.0 works "out of box" while 10.1 I had to fix the updater, find drivers for my wifi card, it is slow and I can't get DVDs to play properly on it while 10.0 on the same laptop works just fine.
