Install dies at 93% on Chembook N38n2-14

Hi folks,
Old dos guy here, utter newby to Linux. I downloaded and burned Ubuntu 6.06 and ran it in safe mode. Everything worked, it even noticed my wireless card. Went to install it and it turned off my laptop at 93% of install(Chembook n38n2-14).
Notebook stats:
PIII 700 256k mem 20g hd, usb2.0 card in cardbusII slot, also Dlink mimo wireless card in second cardbusII slot, have dvd. Linux only partitions. I installed DS linux, but it could not recognize my wireless card. I want to install Ubuntu. In simple terms, how do I do that?

Thanks,

Crimsonkil

May be this website has something for you:
http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/chembook.html

Or try SUSE 10.2 - it has one of the best hardware detection all around.

Are you sure the disks have burned OK. Try MD5SUM check on the ISO after you have downloaded the same.

Welcome to LQ. Can you clarify what you mean by "it turned off my laptop at 93%"? If the laptop powered down, it might just be that the battery was low.

Disk checked out ok, could only start up in safe mode. Was running on ac power at the time. Should I remove my wireless card and start again? Also, how do I connect to my Micro$oft network at home?

Thanks,

Crimsonkil

Re-installed ubuntu 6.06 and everything is fine now. Used ndiswrapper to make my wireless work, need to figure out how to connect to my M$HOME network now.

Yeah, I switched to linux because I had too much free time and and I truly enjoy the feeling of being totally lost. ;-}

To connect to your MShome network use SAMBA. Guide is found here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/...nd_running_NOW
