Inspiron 8200, SXGA+, HorizSync, VertRefresh

I've been searching around about this, but haven't found the details yet.

My Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop has an IBM manufactured SXGA+ LCD display and an nvidia Geforce2 Go, 32MB.

I am reinstalling slackware 9.1 on it and I'm about to reload the nvidia driver.
Looking at the XF86Config file, the slackware defaulted settings are:
HorizSync 31.5 - 50.0
VertRefresh 40-90
I'm looking for these settings that match this SXGA+ display.

In Windows 2000 the display resolution is 1440x1050 (or maybe it was 1400).

In my previous attempt, as I recall, I could only manage 1024x768 with slackware. Any info on the proper settings for this would be appreciated.
I'd also like to go 1600x1200 if it's possible on this display.

Thanks...

"I'd also like to go 1600x1200 if it's possible on this display"

SXGA is 1400x1050. UXGA is 1600x1200.
But, it appears the problem would be the HorizSync and VertRefresh rates, as those are way off of what suse sets my UXGA too when I tell it its a dell 1600X laptop display panel...
I'm sure someone out there has a working XF86Config they could share part of with you...

From my thread over at justlinux I got:

mdwatts: Have you checked http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/dell.html ? They do have quite a few 8200's listed.

And my reply:

Thanks for the link.

I only found one of the many 8200 links that mentioned the HorizSync and VertRefresh. The guy had a seemingly weird combination of 31.5 - 90.0 and 59.0 - 75.0, respectively. But, they worked. I got the 1400x1050.

Thanks...

Hi there,

I am having a problem getting sax2 to accept the resolution of 1600x1200 on my Inspiron 8200 with UXGA. The graphics card is installed ok (NVidia GeForce4 440 Go), but I am not sure about the display (it says -->LCD 1600x1200). The funny thing is, when using Sax2 with only the resolution 1600x1200 set, at the stage of finalizing, it takes a resolution of 1400x1050. Is there a way to force Sax2 to take the 1600x1200 resolution? Where should I look for error messages concerning Sax2?

Thanx. Henk
