Inspiron 6000 i915 Video Fix

I have an Inspiron 6000 with the 915 chipset in it.

I have tried everything to get this thing to operate normally.

I have messed with this for months. And I still can not get the 1920 x 1200 resolution working.

I just want to have the same video resolutions as I did with winblows. I also am trying to get the screen to come back on after I close the lid or come back from a stanby or hibernate.

Thanks in advance.

What distro are you using ?
Just copy paste your xorg.conf file in here.

Here's a link I used heavily to configure a lot of stuff on my laptop, including the lid-switch - http://www.eng.uwaterloo.ca/~dtay/linuxLaptop.shtml

copy of xorg.conf file

and the wiki entry for ubuntu:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/i915Driver

If you have tried that before, I don't know what else to tell you.

Does the modeline 1920x1200 shoe up in xorg log at all?

You could also try the intel driver http://www.intellinuxgraphics.org/documentation.html
