input: at translated set 2 keyboard on isa0060/serio0

I have an old IBM Thinkpad 760XL on which I run Debian. The laptop has its own screen-blanking built in, independent of that done by the Linux console driver. It's on a very short timeout, too (30 seconds, maybe?), so the screen often goes blank. Out of habit, I'll tap the left shift key to get it back. However, doing so invariably produces this error:

input: at translated set 2 keyboard on isa0060/serio0

I've done some Google searching on that and haven't come up with so much as an explanation of what the hell it actually means. It only happens after the screen blanking kicks in and only with the left shift key. It's a minor annoyance, but it clutters up the screen and I'd like to change whatever I need to so it stops happening. Any ideas?
