HELP ME !!
I have installed Mandrakelinux 10.0 on my sony vaio. It all installed fine, went to reboot, fine, comes up with a black screen, asks me to login. Logged in then it comes up with : [ashley@localhost ashley]$ WHAT DO I DO ?
I guess its really easy, but i am a TOTAL newbie...
thanks, that worked. for a second.
it now coms up ith an error :
execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 2)
help
i knew it would go wrong. Im borrowing the disk of my friend so i dont have a manual or anything..... but i know that Mandrakelinux is excellent, so i need to pull my self together and stick with it. Thanks anyway.
hey, it takes time to get good at this stuff, im still waiting for my time, heh. ok, try this, i need you to type
less /var/log/messages
and post the output on here. We'll get X working.
Dont feel too bad, this is your first try, and youre trying it on a laptop with a version of linux using the 2.6 kernel, id expect anyone to have trouble with that, but its fixable, I still have trouble getting linux to work with my vaio, but dont give up.
the output from less /var/log/messages was: Permission Denied
.... o dear,
just a quick question, it calls it server X. You dont need an internet connection for it do you ? because my laptop doesnt have an internet lead.
thanks.
installing 9.2 on my Viao PCG-FX802 was easier than 10 but 10 official now works (so far ) .
on installing if you accept the option to automatically start X (comes after the screen where you setup the user account) then at start-up the machine will have a GUI and not just the command line.
Note that my Viao will not shutdown correctly unless ACPI and NO APIC and NO LOCAL APIC are selected - this is accessed from the configure bootloader button (summary part of the install process).
