IBM Trackpoint/Mousepoint
Hi folks,
I recently bought a laptop, to be more specific a IBM Thinkpad 600E. This Laptop has a Trackpoint instead of a external mouse (I could connect one, but I dont want to have to transport all the time a mouse with me) or a touchpad. My problem is now, that my Distro (Vector Linux, based on Slackware) doesn't detect this Trackpoint properly. When I start X, the Trackpoint jumps around or does nothing. What do I wrong or what do I have to consider during the installation (special options). Im not shure which protocol this trackpoint uses, because I dont have a manual and the IBM website isnt really helpful. PLEASE HELP ME ;) mothman P.S. Im absolutely new with linux, so please give me very detailed instructions, etc. thx! |
Hi, I have a thinkpad 600E as well and have slackware running on it. It's strange you have a problem as Vector is based off of slack. You could try http://www.linux-laptop.net/ for a start and see if there is anything there.

See this article about installing Linux. Written by IBM dude, Mark Chapman, and his system was a 600E, it may have some good pointers for you.
