Hey Congrats and welcome.

I too have the 380XD. SuSE 8.0 and Slack worked the best for me. Tho red hat was the only distro I got the sound to work on it with (7.3).
I had to reconfigure the kernel so sound and the oss driver were both modules else it wouldn't work - what a pain. Wish i had known about the drivers you refer to. Plus all the links for linux on laptops with this box always seemed to be dead. But I got it workin anyway.

At any rate I decided it was a little too slow for linux - even with slack and flux - start OOo and go make some coffee (but still definitely workable). I decided to make it my one and only win98 box to cart back and forth to work and practice samba networking with before I tackle my office network.

It's a good little computer for its age - very sturdy. Sucks to be stuck at 800x600 tho.

Anyway Good Luck and Have alot of Fun
