I have an EEE pc with linux that just won't update.

My little laptop won't update. I don't know anything about Linux, mainly because I am a Windows user. I tried "apt-get update" and after a minute or two, it ends up saying it "couldn't find stat source package" and a bunch of other stuff. I don't know what that means. I know I'm connected to the internet. I tried to force install, from what I read googling this matter, but nothing. What do/should I do?

Which Linux flavor did you use ?

It sounds to me like your sources list is not set up correctly. From the command line, type the following:

cat /etc/apt/sources.list

and post the reply here.

http://wiki.eeeuser.com/ - that's a great resource for the EeePC. I have one and have added all the extra software repositories allowing me to install extra software.

Links pertaining to your problem are:

http://wiki.eeeuser.com/#sources_for_software
and

Make sure you read the advice and warnings, and take your time :)

... And if you search the eeeuser wiki or forums for gfoot's backup system, you'll be able to take a snapshot of your system, and restore from it in case you foul-up somewhere. Very useful.

A reply to "Tons of Fun's" request.
After putting in cat /etc/apt/sources.list...

deb http://update.eeepc.asus.com/p700/es p700 main

How might I know if my list is set up correctly?
