hpnx7010 laptop and RHEL3/KDE, klaptop say no battery?
Hello everyone, I have installed Redhat Enterprise linux 3 in my new HP NX7010(it's centrino) laptop,
the battery works fine under WindowsXP. But in linux/kde, the klaptop report no battery.
i try "modprobe acpi", they say cannot load module, and there are not /proc/acpi directory
entry.
How can I get this box recongnize the battery and speedstep?
Well, from what I have learned, that /proc/apm output says that AC is connected, there is no battery and that it doesn't know anything about any batteries. Maybe your laptop is wierd or requires special drivers?
(Try finding some "Linux on HP ......." pages)
What does 'dmesg' say regarding apm/acpi?
Try passing 'acpi=force' to the kernel at boot time.
Don't know about the speedstep (I need it too!)- I think it will work if you get acpi sorted.
My experience of acpi so far has not been good- I think it's just one of those things.
The reason for that is that the Kernel that comes with RH Ent. V3 is a 2.4.X kernel....
All you need to do is download, configure, and boot the new 2.6.X kernel, and your battery problem will go away, guaranteed.
Also....it is not a good idea to install that version of RH on a Laptop....that is a more desktop oriented version of RH distribution...and you may have some other problems with laptop hardware recognition. I suggest you switch to Fedora.
i don't know if Suse comes with 2.6.x..... but it's really easy to download and install the latest kernel... I strongly suggest that.
And that acpi=force doesn't work either.... I've tried that before with my laptop under 2.4.x and the only thing that fixes that is the 2.6.x kernel.
