ok I dloaded grub and it said something like I have to build it and I read through all the install files and got very confused so I decided to use the windows boot loader through console recovery but I dont understand the process because I tried using bootcfg /add and that only adds already installed windows os right?.. I disabled boot magic and just tried installing fedora without it and still nothing. do you think it is possible that the bios version of laptop could have something to do with it not working?
ok I got fedora to run on my laptop the legacay support setting was causing the problem. I got it installed and runs but I cant get on the internet, use my touchpad, monitor my battery life, or just about any other thing on there but I dont know a thing a bout linux so if anyone could give me a good push the the right direction for getting online with fedora it would be appreciated

I'm not sure this will help...
Using grub or lilo will work well for dual-boot. Try booting from a floppy first, then configure the boot loader from inside linux. I'm about to try fedora core 1 tonight on my laptop. I got suse 9 and 10 working great on my ze4430us, mine's the one in the hcl. I did have to edit pcmcia to use the external, not the kernel. It's 02micro, but the kernel hung every time I put in my hardware modem. I did have to edit sysconfig and pcmcia to resolve irq conflicts, following what I found in the c133 website, I think, that someone else linked to earlier. (Hope this isn't too vague.)
Anyway, I'm going to try fedora because my xp partition crashed, to no one's surprise. XP will only run about a year without dying or cruft or leprosy or whatever. And do not try to reinstall while preserving any other partition. The install cd will trash the mbr. I now no longer trust wintendo, and am moving to linux. But SuSE works ok out of the box. Hope that helps.

As to getting online, if you mean the internet, I recommend springing for a hardware pcmcia modem. I got one by zoom that works fine, even faster than it should go. Good luck. Email me if you need the stuff i hunted down to get suse going.
