Gianfranco,

Welcome to LQ.

You may wish to consider making a W10 recovery drive using a USB stick:
https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/HT117511

I realise that you dislike W10, but if you decide to sell the laptop later, it will be more valuable with W10 rather than Linux.

This should help you:

Installation Notes:

To install there are just a few steps to follow:
1) Create a Ubuntu 16.04 USB stick.
2) Disable secure boot in the BIOS. (Press F10 while booting)
3) Enable Legacy support mode in the BIOS (system -> boot options).
4) Plug the USB stick in the most right USB-C port (The single one with USB icon, other ports won’t work)
5) Boot from the USB stick (Press F9 while booting)
6) Install.

7) Optional step. Install tlp to increase battery life:

Code:
sudo apt-get install tlp

Hi,

yes, keep the shrink the windows partition and keep it in a corner.

The major obstacle is mostly UEFI. So, boot into the BIOS (or UEFI firmware settings, as they call it these days). Remove Secure Boot, Fastboot and put the "OS manager" to last in the boot order. Then try booting something else. Just make sure it is a EFI compatible distro. Normally, the latest versions of popular distros are all EFI capable.

All the best.
