Wink hp pavilion zv5365EA - modem agere systems AC' 97

hi,

first of all my name is vasilis. second thank you for all the help you have written in this site it is very helpfull and encouraging for newbies like myself. I am now six and a half months a user of the linux operating systems in two distros ( ubuntu and Fedora core 4).As long as i was in England the ethernet connection that i had was automatically detected by both versions of linux.
now that i have finished my Msc and returned in the homeland Greece, we have to compansate with the old dial-up connection. hence this indicates me that i have to use my modem, which is internaly built in my laptop. This was a funny intruduction, i am closing the parenthesis here and i will get straight into the problem that i am facing.
I have nearly 10 months now a laptop HP Pavilion zv5365EA, which has a internal modem of the following type: Agere Systems AC'97. currently as a member of the ubuntu team in greece i am focusing in the use and in the future development of the ubuntu versions. the problem is that when i am installing ubuntu and try to set up the internet connection, ubuntu cannot regognize the modem. therefore i cannot have access to the internet. I have been searching for four days now to obtain a solution from looking different forums in different sites, but no luck. Finally i have reaches this site which is wonderfull , because it has more informations for problem solving that are held in the form of discussion between all of its members. therefore i am kindly asking any of you my friends new or old in linux in order together to guide me and with your help as well to find a solution to my Crusial problem at this stage.

before i have to say which methods i have followed in order to find a solution. i have tried alone to make adjustment internally in ubuntu but o luck and seconly i have been advised the proposed solution of scanModem.gz that i have found in limodems.org. this later step i have done it now and i am going to post it as well to their site. but i am asking anyone of you if you have similare or the same model and have accounted the same problem with a internal build modem like this to help me as it would be a quicker way presumably after 4 days of searching the internet.

thank you beforehand

vasilis

There's a project at sourceforge that's attempting to organize a database of modems that work with a PCTel driver, and there's an entry for an Agere AC'97 modem here:
http://pctelcompdb.sourceforge.net/v....php?id_no=196

If your modem matches this one, you can follow the directions given. What does lspci -v say about your modem?

The PCTel driver can be found here:
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/pcte...x/welcome.html

thank you

ciotog,

thank you very much my friend, i really appreciate you move to reply to me, i have problems currently with the ubuntu since it needs packages of the gcc and gcc libraries to compile the file that you have suggested. therefore i cannot say if it has worked at the moment or not and i am still trying to download the packages with the 56k dial-up. it is really tiring since it takes a long time and all the time here in greece it is interrupted. anyway i will tell u how it went asap.

thank you

i hope if it anything that i can do for you, please let me know

vasilis vrettas
