I'm going to install the modem, model: "AGERE SYSTEMS AC'97"
Have you tried this modem or any sugestion ¿??

There is a program called SAX2 in SUSE that configures your monitor.

When you are in the "black screen" you have to change to the text mode (CRTL+ALT+F1), then log as root with your password then:

$ init 3
$ sax2 -m 0=vesa

*Monitor.
LCD 1280x800 (75 Hz) 16" 4/3
Horiz 30-82 Verti 46-75
UserFrameBufferTiming X=330 Y=250
Avtive DPMS Actived

*Graphic Card
Intel 915GM

*Resolution
24Bit 1280x800

Then you save this settings and reboot
and that is all!!!

Mi modem is a AGERE SYSTEMS AC'7
i have actived with a slmodem & ungrab-winmodem
it works regular....

hey thanks a lot for the instructions on how to fix the screen, i've been working on it for about two weeks and couldnt figure anything out. I really appriciate your help. Although i am really sorry i dont know how to fix your modem as i do not use mine. I use my wireless card. But if i find anything out I will let you know.

sethians 08-26-2005 01:33 AM

hi kurcz

I hope that your screen works perfect too!!!!
do you have problems with ACPI ¿?¿?

I have a lot of error messages with the kernel when it starups..
LINUX KERNEL: ACPI-0378 ***WARNING: INVALID PASSIVE THRESHOLD
do you know what it means that warning ¿??

my modem works fine sometimes....
It connects to internet!!! :)

Hi I have Ubuntu 5.10 on it and it works as a charm. Even the wireless was configured during the installation. I highly recomd not using Suse because I had horrible experience with it.
BTW HP ROCKS

I have the same model laptop, an HP Pavilion dv4000. I installed SuSE 10.0 on it, and it works great. You may want to try version 10.

Hi

I also have HPDV4000 and i need to install linux in dual boot with Windows XP.

As i am very new to Linux world so i dont know what kind of problems i may get. All of you have given great experiences. Can u advise me which Linux distribution should i use SuSE 10.0 or Ubunto , someone told me about Fedora but dont know about it either. I need to work with both wireless and modem(AGERE SYSTEMS AC'7). also combo drive . I have 40GB of memory in the system

Mimo.m 05-13-2006 01:41 AM

I have tried both of the distributions and I use OpenSuse 10.1 at this moment. Everythings works fine. Are you sure, what Xserver do you wanna use? Ubuntu includes only Gnome, but you can install KDE too. Kubuntu has KDE default. Suse includes both of the Xservers. I thing Suse is better for beginners.

DV 4000 and Linux

I have a pavilion DV4394 laptop and a SuSE 10 on it. I don't have any problems like u guys
( screen problem, kernel error about acpi etc) but my modem and built in card reader are
not working. also 3D for my ATI X700 card is not active and I haven't tried
ATI proprietaty driver yet. the other thing is that battery doesn't last as long as it lasts
on windoz, also the fan is more noisy than in windoz.

Aside from these I really love SuSE distro

we can solve these probles together right? also please have a look at my thread
"HP Pavilion DV4000 and It's Remote Control"

regards
