HP Pavilion dv3000 IR remote control not working

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Posts in the web I found about IR remotes for HP were a little vague and not describing any symptoms and solutions, but from what I understood the remote sends the same signals as the keyboard keys they duplicate, so as long as the IR device in the laptop is functional there should be no problem. However, remote doesn't seem to work at all for me. Any help here?
