HP Pavilion dv3000 IR remote control not working

Posts in the web I found about IR remotes for HP were a little vague and not describing any symptoms and solutions, but from what I understood the remote sends the same signals as the keyboard keys they duplicate, so as long as the IR device in the laptop is functional there should be no problem. However, remote doesn't seem to work at all for me. Any help here?

I am currently facing the same issue on the same model, but from what I gathered only HID usb remote controls mirror keyboards, an thus can be used without special drivers. So, since I failed to locate the device as either usb or serial, I decided to try both of the lirc modules. And I ended up noticing that the lirc_serial generates /dev/lirc0 device, so I figured I'll stick with it. But when I try mode2 or irw, neither shows any response from remote. I went so far to point my remote against the camera of my mobile phone to check if it actually works, and the test was positive. So I had a look in the folder where my usb-serial drivers are, and found 43 *.ko files... If somebody has had progress on this issue, any post would be greatly appreciated.
