HP Dv4000 and Mandrake 10
 

I have insatlled mandrake 10.1 on my HP Pavilion dv4000 using Virtual Machine 5.5

From what i've gathered from other posts, I *think* this error has to do with my video card/driver settings, but nothing is specific for what *I* should do, so I need to ask..

When it starts up, it goes right into the login, but black background, white text, (similar to windows DOS). I'm still really new, not sure what its called in linux.

Anyways, I login and get [ajent@localhost ajent]$

I type startx as i've seen in other posts, and get
At least one screen selection required.
(EE) Problem Parsing config file
(EE) Error parsing config file

Fatal Server Error:
no screens found

There is more reponses than that, but I think that's the only part that matters, if I need to post the rest I will.

I've tried numerous entries in display properties from drakxconf but Can't seem to find one that works.

I don't know if I should just try another linux OS or keep trying with this, i'm really interested in learning more about it, but its hard starting with a problem.

Nevermind, I got restless and installed Suse 9.1 everything looks good!

hi i have hp pavilion dv4000 too and i just tried fedora core 4 but my sound card does not work so i toke my chances with Ubuntu and it`s really owsome every thing works fine but sloooooooow to much slow does anyone out there tell me witch linux will work with my labtop
