How to Update Lenovo s10e

I Just got my Lenovo s10e with Suse Enterprise Desktop 10 sp2
and now I want to upgrade it to openSUSE 11.1

is there a way to do it by adding the 11.1 software repositories?

I've just done an update of my laptop from OpenSuSE 10.3 to 11.1 and I wish that I hadn't. It's not that 11.1 is bad, its just that this install is the most troublesome, needing most bits fixed, one that I have seen in years.

I wish that I had taken my more usual approach of backing up /home (on a separate partition), blowing the old stuff away and installing the new. I'm sure that it would have been less problematic.

That's not an upgrade, it's a different distro.

I know that - but because I don`t have a external DVD I was wondering how to install opensuse 11.1 to the netbook...

I tried to put the dvd iso to my usb stick with unetbootin - bat that doesn`t seem to work!

now I am trying the installation procedure described here:

http://de.opensuse.org/SuSE_install_from_USB_drive

but I`m not sure if that works better....

Hello,
As I recall several years ago I used to install SuSe by FTP (network install)..
Of course you would need a fairly fast internet connection..
It worked out fine but it did take a bit longer than using a DVD..
Just a suggestion..

OK, it was very hard to get suse to an USB Stick!!!

I got it to run with unetbootin and an speciial initrd for sub sticks - i`ll post the link to the download later...

This should be easier - ubuntu starts from an usb stick out of the box - for opensuse to start it got my many many tries....
