How to uninstall Linux Mint 17.3 from my Acer Aspire 3004 laptop.

I need to uninstall Linux. My Acer recovery cd's are not doing the recovery and is reporting not enough target space. The 60 gig hard drive was reformatted entirely.

You don't exactly uninstall linux. You may be able to use a live cd/dvd/usb with a program like gparted to manipulate the disk space. If for example the original windows was on the third partition then you could either clean the linux from the area or expand if you have windows still there.

You do need to be careful if the cd's also rely on some hidden partition for it's data.

OP, you might want to ask a moderator to change your username so it does not include your email address, if that is in fact your email address. Otherwise, you might receive emails regarding topics in which you have little or no interest.

Put a Live CD of g-parted in your CDROM drive and delete the Linux partitions that way.

Replies to un-installing

Thank you for responding to my inquiry. I have requested a change in the user name through the proper channels.
I will pursue the gparted cd.

do you mean there's only linux mint on it now, nothing else?
in that case you don't uninstall anything; you just install something else, and tell it to use the entire disk for that.

Are you in a dual boot?

Windows along side of Linux Mint?
If so; write down your Windows partitions so you don't delete them by accident in g-parted.

If your not in a dual boot than just reinstall like our member ondoho explained.

reinstall fails due to not enough space in target.

I had already tried to simply do the reinstall from the Acer cd's that came with the computer and it fails because there is not enough room on the target area (whatever that means). I think it must mean that Linux is right up against the entry door and blocking access to the unused space on the hard drive.

You need to find out if any data that needs to be saved off that hard drive before you try anything.

If all your recovery data is on the cd's and you are sure then you have to delete partitions from drive and try to load up recovery disc's again.
